Lightened in Leesburg
Kitchen Refresh
An update which utilizes new materials to lighten and brighten the atmosphere of the space. Through reflective finishes, such as the polished granite, the glossy backsplash tile, the satin stainless steel sink, and polished chrome faucet, light is enhanced throughout the kitchen. The natural, light-colored hardwood flooring further brightens the kitchen and adjoining rooms.

“I was so fortunate to have such wonderful clients for this project! It was truly a collaborative relationship.”

The design directive was to brighten and lighten the space while retaining the existing cabinetry and appliances. One aspect of the design refresh was to replace the existing hardwood floors on the main level. The clients preferred a wider plank for the new hardwood flooring and a wood stain which would complement the existing cabinetry. The dark granite countertops and backsplash tile were to be replaced. The clients requested that the new countertop material also be granite due to its durability and low maintenance. The double-bowl sink needed to be updated to a single-bowl sink and the faucet replaced with a higher quality version with a pull-down option. The request for cabinet hardware included pulls for doors and knobs for drawers.

The jumping off point for this kitchen refresh was the selection of beautiful, new stone slabs. The granite has a soft-white base with veining of gray and taupe with burgundy flecks. The overall appearance of the countertop is soft and calming. This really changes how much lighter the kitchen appears.
The addition of artisanal backsplash tile with variations in both color and surface depth adds character and interest, while the glossy surface helps to bounce light around the space. The rectangular tile is a more contemporary format of 3” x 10” laid in a horizontal running bond pattern.
The previous double-bowl sink was no longer adequate for the clients’ needs, so a new single-bowl sink with a satin finish was specified with a generous depth of 10”. The chrome finish faucet features a pull-down spray head with a two-function water spray.
The new wider plank, character oak hardwood flooring features a brushed surface with a matte finish. The natural color of this flooring minimizes the orange tones in the cabinetry as well as throughout the space.
We were able to achieve the clients’ goals for this space by not only giving them what they wanted, but also delivering on the details that they would not have considered without our expertise. By employing specific materials with either color or light reflectiveness in mind, we pulled together a cohesive, lightened look for their kitchen. and achieved more than they hoped for!
